Poem 11

Maddening:

With the dark of night comes a time to dream
Away from problems of a certain extreme
Let my eyes close tight and off to sleep quick
In a space of time I refer to as nick
I'm soon drifting off to places afar
From the maddening headache so bloody bizarre

Is that my mum I see upon that cloud?
My God, it is, her look so loving and still so proud
A wave and a kiss to her I hve blown
But oh so quickly my angel has flown

I'm sitting aged 4 upon my grandads old knee
Swaying to lullabyes made surely for me
A sickly old man not a tooth in his head
A head of hair thinning yet still firey red
Where are your tunes you munched on all day
Why dear old man did you go away

Look at me now a big boy dressed for school
Who's that girl? Don't stare, you'll scare her ya bloody fool
Here name is Belinda my young heart did beat
She's my girlfriend, oh yes, don't step on her feet

Make way for the yob, my hair cut so tight
I'm now a tearaway so don't look for a fight
A blast from the past that worried Mum dear
A path I was taking that filled her with fear
She steered my so right during said trying times
Alarm bells rang, she recognised those chimes

Is that my son being born? I just cannot believe
Me a dad, you're joking, so complex a weave
Step up, now's the time to be the best that I can
Not like other, you know, the also ran

My night becomes restless with niggling doubt
Was I the best? Life's laws did I flout?
I tried to be what I thought that I should
My epitath will read, yes the boy tried, he done good
I looked for the praise that I sorely did yearn
No need to look, it finds you, one you gotta earn

Awoke from my shumber, a familiar sound
Tiny feet bouncing when hitting the ground
Wake up my grandad the sunshine is out
Wake up my grandad your champ is about
I rise and I see days light of new day
My maddening over in the best possible way.
